Our Preschool is open to international families residing in Beijing. As educators, we have been given the greatest opportunity to help unfold the possibilities and potential of all these students. We recognize that a child is more responsive to certain learning experiences at particular times or “sensitive periods”. Our school provides a comprehensive set of Montessori curriculum, extensive supplemental materials, formal music, PE, and Art education programs, conversational English, a well maintained outdoors and indoors play space. Our teachers have a deep understanding of child psychology, and developmental phases. Teachers observe, plan, monitor their progress and fulfill their needs. The children in the classroom respect themselves, others, and the environment as Montessori said, based on "freedom within limits". Children learn by repetition, at their own individual pace and according to their own choice of activities from hundreds of possibilities. Our children always receive lots of attention and loving care. Our classes cover their individual physical and mental health. We also provide a good environment that helps inspire children’s curiosity and help develop a sense of exploration, which in turn allows them to adapt to the environment.
In our work, we ensure that each child is approached individually without interrupting their chosen work cycles and with respect to its genuine needs and interests and with the well being of the group in mind. We partner with parents to provide the most positive learning and living experience for each child.
In order to provide international education for our students, our school will be based on the Montessori educational approach; as well we will also include the introduction of the PYP curriculum of International Education. The classes will carry out a Primary Years Programme (PYP), which focuses on the development of the whole child. It offers a framework that meets children's several needs: academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural. Through the learning of six subject areas driven by six transdisciplinary themes, children can become Inquirers, Thinkers, Communicators, Risk-takers, Knowledgeable, Principled, Caring, Open-minded, Well-balanced and Reflective.
It aims to maximize the achievements of its students through the school culture, curriculum and in personal and social fields. Drawing on the rich variety of cultures represented at the school, CISB aims to develop in each student a global outlook, which seeks to understand and appreciate the attitudes and values of others.

In the Elementary age group, the emphasis is placed on educational experiences which develop a positive approach to learning. Purposeful and challenging experiences are designed around ideas, concepts and themes that are meaningful to students. Language Arts and Mathematics are emphasized to develop litteracy and numeracy skills. Broad and balanced learning connections are developed through a variety of other subjects. Students are required to write standardized assessments in both Mathematics and English throughout their Elementary School years.

The Canadian international School is an authorized IB Middle Years Programme school.
The IB Middle Years Programme at CISB, for students from ages 11 to 16, provides a framework of academic challenges that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, and become critical and reflective thinkers.
Curriculum in the MYP consists of eight subject groups integrated through the areas of interaction that provide a framework for learning within and across the subjects. Students are required to study their mother tongue, a second language, humanities, science, mathematics, and arts, physical education, and technology. In the final years of the programme students will engage in a personal project, which allows them to demonstrate the understandings and skills they have developed throughout the programme.
Assessment is criterion-related, so students around the world are measured against specified criteria for each subject group. Teachers set assessment tasks that are assessed internally in the school. External checks are carried out on this internal assessment to ensure worldwide consistency of standards. (ibo.org)

The Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB) is proud to offer its high school students the opportunity to obtain both a world recognized Canadian (New Brunswick) high school diploma and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
CISB has partnered with the Government of New Brunswick, Canada to offer our students a Canadian high school curriculum. Students will study subjects and fulfill the credit requirements equivalent to that of students studying in New Brunswick. All successful graduates of CISB will receive a New Brunswick issued high school diploma that is recognized across North America and around the world.
CISB high school students can also choose to study the IB Diploma Program (IBDP). CISB has been an IB World School since April 2009 with our first group of IBDP students graduating in the spring of 2011. The Non-profit IB Organization began its development in the 1960's in an international effort to create a common curriculum and universal entrance for students who move from country to country. The program has continued to evolve into one stressing the education of the student as a whole. IB learners strive to be: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk takers, balanced and reflective.
The IBDP is designed for highly motivated secondary school students aged 16 to 19. The program has earned a reputation for rigorous assessment, giving IB Diploma holders access to the world's leading universities. Successful graduates of the full IB Diploma Program will receive both a Canadian (New Brunswick) high school diploma and an IB Diploma.
